A small group -- including Rev. Alan Berg (South Hills BC), Rev. Mark Schollaert (FBC Monongahela) Attorney Matthew Polka and Mark Steranka (assisting the Karen Congregation) -- joined Pastor Minn (Lead Pastor of the Pittsburgh Karen Baptist Church) to discuss the congregation becoming members of the Pittsburgh Baptist Association and ABCOPAD. There was a great discussion about the incredible historic connection the Karen people have with American Baptist through the mission work of Adoniram Judson in Burma. Pastor Minn outlined the ministry of the church while Pastor Alan and Pastor Mark explained how partnership with the PBA and ABCOPAD could be mutually beneficial. It was both an exciting meeting.

Breaking Bread

 

Rev. Mark Schollaert (and his wife Paula) serves as the First Baptist Church, Monongahela. The Wednesday Evening Bible Study begins with a fellowship meal (and a scrumptious dessert table) with a significant group in attendance. The study led by Ken Kirby began with a few Bible jokes that brought both chuckles and some groans, right before launching into a serious study from the Book of Hebrews.

Proclaiming Christ

Exton Community Baptist Pastor Jonathan Matthew Yohannan (recently emigrated from India) has been empowered by his congregation to focus his mission primarily on reaching the Asian community in the greater Exton area. He has begun a monthly worship opportunity for Asians (especially those who speak Tamil) on Saturday afternoons.

Berean Birthday

 

Congrats to Berean Baptist Church, Carbondale, as it observes its 175th birthday on March 1. A celebration is planned for later in the year.

Revived, Renewed, Restored

 

First Baptist Church of Gillett was the scene for a regathering of the Bradford Association. Pastor Mickey Cavanaugh pulled the group together for a time for renewed partnership in the Gospel Ministry. The group had a different agenda which focused on worship and fellowship. At the same time, they elected new officers and are looking forward to future gatherings and ministries.
