ECBC Retirement Honors

Donna Dunn retired on Sunday, February 26, from 33 years of service as the Director of Music for Exton Community Baptist Church. Her music ministry has spanned a remarkable 49 years, with ECBC claiming 67% of those years. At the Sunday service and reception Donna was honored for her dedication and for the joy and inspiration she has contributed to worship.

FBC, Bethlehem -- Vision Check

Jeff Johnson spent the weekend at the First Baptist Church of Bethlehem where he conducted sessions on vision and specifically worship as a core component of their strategy. Friday evening's session was a meeting with the pastors and two dozen leaders of the congregation to talk about how in their roles they facilitate vision. Saturday morning's session was with over eighty of the laity focused on how each can be a part of living out their vision both personally and collectively.
The time together was inspirational, informational, and very interactive. Jeff stayed to preach at the church's two Sunday morning services. Pastor Dale Miller, former ABCOPAD staffer and the church's senior minister, has been taking the congregation through a very productive vision process. The sessions with Jeff were to complement the work already done.

Got Style?

After a weekend at First Baptist Church, Bethlehem, Jeff Johnson had lunch with Dr. Riddick Weber and Dr. Jill Peters, both professors at Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem. Hearing that Jeff would be in town, they asked Pastor Dale Miller to arrange a meeting. Both professors use Jeff's book, Got Style?, in their seminary courses. Great ideas were exchanged around the table on how all could use the resource even more effectively than they already do.

Prayers Welcome!

Last fall, Calvary, Newark, installed a prayer box on the main side walk in front of the church. Calvary is unique in that they have perhaps a couple thousand passes daily on that sidewalk, mostly University students. The church created a simple card and placed them in a weather resistant box. There's not a high volume of prayer request, but much of what they receive are very serious needs.

The specific prayer concerns are shared directly with a prayer warriors team. General concerns are shared with the congregation. It is a test of faith to pray for somebody you do not know, and knowing that they will likely never learn the answer to the prayer. Nevertheless... The fervent prayers of the righteous avail much!

Celebrating 90 Years

On Sunday evening, February 19, Exton Community Baptist Church honored its oldest member, Erma Hegarty, whose 90th birthday had occurred two days earlier. The celebration, held in the festively decorated Fellowship Hall, included a hearty episode of "White Elephant" (a gift exchange, of sorts) and plenty of party food. Because Erma has had a lifelong passion for missions, the church decided to participate in "Piglets for Prosperity in Burundi" - a project sponsored by International Ministries. Donations to the project are being contributed to IM in honor of Erma. This gives her much joy, as does reaching the age of 90! She never imagined hitting that milestone, and in Erma's words, "The Lord has been so good to me."

FBC Emporium Bible Study

Rev. Jim Horton, interim pastor at First Baptist Church Emporium, leads several Bible Study groups each week. He has about a dozen people in the class on Wednesday afternoons and again a different dozen on Thursday evenings. Wow!

Shiloh Baptist Church, Scranton,
Worship

Mark Mahserjian-Smith joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Scranton for morning worship. It was fun attending both Sunday School and the morning worship. The congregation does a Mission Sunday when there is a 5th Sunday in the month, and Mark was invited to share what ABCOPAD is doing in missions. Valerie Black was our worship leader and did an outstanding job. Also, Pastor Cornellius Williams said farewell, as he concluded his interim ministry at the church.

First English Baptist, Bloomsburg,
Worship

A look at the worship service at the First English Baptist Church of Bloomsburg. The service included special music from the Praise team, choir and the children's bell choir. Pastor Lee Barnhart delivered a message about being "salt and light" in our world. Following the message the church celebrated Communion.

Happy Anniversary!

February 12, 1977 ... That day marked the marriage of Pastor Ron and Jamie Wagner, and February 12, 2017 marked the renewal of vows for them in honor of their 40th anniversary! Following worship at the Montandon Baptist Church. Frank Frischkorn had the privilege of officiating at the renewal of vows ceremony for the happy couple ( a total surprise to Jamie). Congratulations!
