Nearly 100 neighborhood and area residents joined with members of Westgate Baptist Church in Lancaster, Pa., for an afternoon of informal fun and fellowship during Westgate’s third annual Community Day on June 14. 

Activities centered at the church's pavilion and five-acre lot included games, crafts and prizes for children; a cake walk for adults and children; and visits from the Rohrerstown Fire Department, Kelloggs’ Tony the Tiger and Granny Three B’s the Clown.  The church provided free hot dogs, chips, drinks and cookies.

"Each year we’ve eagerly anticipated this special afternoon, and we looked forward to our third annual Community Day as an opportunity once again to share with neighbors and friends," said Judy Johnsen, director of pastoral care and church growth for Westgate and chair of event's planning group. "We offered this as our gift to the community, but we know the event has been a very real blessing for our entire church family.  We have many neighbors--from the nearby apartment complexes and other parts of Lancaster—and each year this has provided us a wonderful opportunity to get to know them and to show them that we care about them.”

Westgate, in collaboration with Child Evangelism Fellowship, also will offer a week-long Day Camp for children ages 6 to 12 from July 21-25.  The five-day camp (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), including daily snacks, drinks and a Friday cookout lunch, will be offered for $35 per child. The Rev. Roy W. Johnsen serves as pastor of Westgate, which holds Sunday worship at 10:15 a.m., preceded by Sunday school classes for children and adults at 9:00, as well as weekly Bible study and prayer time 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
