Project Update:  We had a good meeting. Some of the highlights;

BCH should be done with the paperwork to acquire the Spruce Ave. site within 2 weeks. We walked the site yesterday and saw the stakes that show the preliminary thought for where the house will be. We will be the house farthest down the site. It is the best location on the property.

The BCH construction manager for our build will be Charlie Smith. I met him yesterday and he seems to be easy to work with.

It looks like we will build a component house. It will be supplied in 12 feet length maximum parts. BCH has determined this is the least expensive way to build. It will accelerate the build schedule significantly. It will probably be locally sourced and will not be a complete kit with bathtubs, et al. This will make it easier for us to do gifts-in-kind. If it is locally sourced the vendor can supply the panels as we need them so there will be no problem trying to find a place to store panels until we are ready for them. Many Habitat affiliates use component houses since it takes less labor.

BCH does not have any cash in hand so we will need to supply them with cash to fund the project as it moves ahead. This is normal for Habitat builds as none of us is ever flush with cash. They will have the memo of understanding finished within several weeks. This will include the cash flow schedule.  (Steps are already being taken to pay projects costs as contributions begin to come in.)  Art Munson

    A unique mission project has been launched in our Region.  On Tuesday evening, March 25, a meeting of pastors and lay leaders from the Centre Association was held to discuss the 2008 ABCOPAD Habitat For Humanity Mission Project.  The group met at the First Baptist Church of Hollidaysburg.  Earlier that day, a similar meeting was held with the pastors and lay leaders of the Laurel Association.

There was a great sense of excitement as church leaders along with Frank Frischkorn, Art Munson, Sue MacDonald, Mary Lewis and representatives from Blair County Habitat For Humanity came together to begin thinking through the project.  A build site has been selected and a possible construction plan is being studied.  Art Munson is our Region's primary project leader.  Art is a member of the Upper Merion Baptist Church and has over 15 years of experience working with Habitat For Humanity.  Representatives from Habitat have indicated that this project is quite unique.  While individual churches and local groups have built homes throughout Pennsylvania, a build involving church families from all over the Region has not been tried before.

This such a wonderful opportunity to not just talk about mission but to do mission in our Region.  It is a chance to model to the community and the world what it means to be Partners In Ministry.  It is our hope that even now you will begin to pray for the project.  Much more information is coming out soon.
