May 15-16, 2008 Complete Photo Album Of This Event On May 15-16, nine pastors from around the region met with the region staff and other organizational representatives at the Colonial Park Community Baptist Church in Harrisburg for a New Pastors Orientation. The goal is for this to become an annual event. “At one of our staff meetings last year, we talked about the need to introduce pastors who are new to the region to the ministries, opportunities, resources, and structure of ABCOPAD,” said Rev. Richard McIntyre, Northeast Area Minister. “We also wanted to provide an opportunity for them to meet one another, as well as a chance to get to know the entire staff.” After devotions led by Rev. Jim Oldham, Interim Area Minister for the Southwest Area and Pittsburgh Baptist Association, the Orientation started with an interesting discussion about the dynamics of beginning a new ministry. A great deal of time was given to talking about the structure of ABCOPAD, our current vision process, mission and stewardship resources, and, the upcoming Biennial in October, especially the Habitat Build. Other topics of discussion included the website, Growing Vital Congregations, CLI, and student ministries. While most of the presentations were made by staff members, a few special guests stopped by to talk about resources outside of ABCOPAD. Ken Stout spoke about the Ministers & Missionaries Benefits Board, and Fred Daugherty and Linda Cassel talked about The American Baptist Foundation. On Thursday evening, the entire group went to dinner together, providing a time for fellowship and conversation. Another New Pastors Orientation is already being planned for 2009. If you’re a pastor, and you’re new to the region (2007-2009) we hope to see you there! American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware |
