Women’s History Month Devotional

In time for Women’s History Month in March, Judson Press releases “Devotions from HERstory: 31 Days with Women of Faith,” perfect for women’s group study or individuals seeking to meditate on the female experience.

This book honors many women who have come before by connecting their stories across time as a resource for a contemporary life of faith. While the biblical women featured are primarily Hebrew or early Christian, the other historic women highlighted include those of many faith traditions, as well as various ethnic and national backgrounds. From the medieval mystic Julian of Norwich to the contemporary Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, those featured are sure to inspire.

Originally intended for the 31 days of Women’s History Month, the entries are undated, permitting readers to use them at any time of year. Each day’s devotion features the following:

  • Scripture connecting a biblical woman with more recent “HERstory”;
  • meditation for personal or group conversation;
  • prayer-poem;
  • idea for action inspired by the story; and
  • brief biographical sketch of the historical woman.

“Devotions from HERstory” is written by Lynn Domina, M.Div., head of the English department at Northern Michigan University. Editor of “Poets on the Psalms” (2008), she has edited or authored several other books. In addition, her work appears in many periodicals, including The Christian Century, Christianity & Literature, and Poetry Daily.
