This article came from Duane and Marcia Binkley's on-line newsletter:
Greetings, In February of 1812, Adoniram Judson sailed from Salem, Massachusetts on his way first to India, then to Burma where his mission work really began. To commemorate the 200th anniverssary of Judson's sailing, special services and programs areto be held in Salem this month.
See the attached documents for moredetails, but events will include:
February 18 -Bus tour, dinner and a Sailing Celebration.
February 19 - Morningworship with Dr. A. Roy Medley, General Secretary of the ABC/USA, a combined Burmese service, and a special program by Dr. Rosalie Hunt who wrote a biography of Judson followed by a reception.
February 20 - Aspecial program at the Salem wharf
These celebrations begin a three year period of events to remember the Judson's lifeand work. To have it come as so many churches across America and around the world are receiving the fruit Judson's legacy in the form of Chin, Karen, Kachin, Karenni and other Christians from Burma can only leave us marveling at how God can take the work of a single person and make it multiply. May our own efforts be used of the Lord to serve His purpose.
Be watching for more information on the special missions conference to be held in Green Lake,WI in May of 2012, the ABC Biennial in Overland Park, KS and special events in Burma in 2013 and the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the formation of what is now International Ministries of the American Baptist Churches in 2014. All will be commemorating our Baptist history to help propel us into thefuture.
