On Wednesday the mission team was working like a well oiled machine. Every crew member was up and ready to go, prepared for their assignments and eager to get back to the work sites they had labored in the days before. Having witnessed what a team of dedicated, hard working volunteers could accomplish in a day, there was a sense of both confidence and joy knowing God was working through each team member to help others and share the love of Jesus in this community. Without a doubt, the highlight of Wednesday was the evening meal. The ladies of Primera Ingelsia Bautista promised the team an authentic Mexican dinner and they were true to their word. These dear sisters in the faith arrived with a wide array of delicious food they had prepared at their homes and were ready to share with the work team. Even more wonderful than the food was the fellowship. The warmth of Spirit was overwhelming. Following the meal both the church family and the mission team gathered in the sanctuary for Wednesday night prayer meeting. Hymns were sung in both Spanish and English and with opportunities for prayer and scripture reading. Bonds were formed between the church family and the mission team that will not easily be broken. For the work team both our hearts and our bellies were full as the team retired for the evening.
Thursday was the scheduled day of rest. While everyone was more than willing to continue to work at their assignments, Pastors Tim and Jenn shared their wisdom and experience, noting how important it is to take a day and enjoy the community and take a break. They were right. Most people had no problem taking advantage of the additional hour of sleep and it did not take long to see our physical and emotional batteries needed to be recharged. The group decided to leave Galveston and return to Houston to tour the Johnson Space Center. Seeing the home of Mission Control for all the Lunar Apollo Missions, a real Saturn Five Rocket and site where Space Shuttle teams prepare for there work on the International Space Station was breathtaking. Some of the group remained at NASA while others departed back to Galveston and a January day at the beach. The sun and surf with a 75 degree day was simply to much to resist. Later the entire team enjoyed the best Texas BBQ in Galveston eating at Leon's Number One BBQ Restaurant. Pastor Dave Cox closed the night with a time of worship and a message about the importance of "Hanging On To Jesus" and learning to "Let Go" of anything that gets in the way.
