Tuesday Jan. 19th

Having arrived in Galveston Texas late Sunday afternoon, work crews sprang into action on Monday.  The 32 member Mission team broke up into 5 work crews taking on different projects at different locations throughout Galveston.

Crew 1:  This crew went to work on the parsonage of the church we are staying at.  On Monday the team put down subfloor and began insulating the external walls.  On Tuesday they completed the insulation and are getting ready to sheetrock the ceiling.  The materials being used were purchase through a grant of $2000.00 from One Great Hour Of Sharing.

Crew 2:  This crew is working in a private residence.  The work has included cleaning mud, mildew and mold.  The team is also spackling drywall, taping and sanding.  It has been a big job leveling walls and doing repair work on floors.

Crews 3:  The team started and completed pulling off old and decayed siding from a private residence.  They had opportunity to work with the home owner's son who worked alongside the crew.  This is a two story house so the team was working on ladders.  Not only did they help the family in the home but also touched base with other neighbors in the community.  Having complete this project, on Tuesday they started painting and repairs helping another home owner in the neighborhood.

Crew 4.  Joe and his wife Gloria have been living in a FEMA trailer for over a year.  Joe is a retired tile installer who has been trying to repair his home on his own in an effort to make the most of his insurance money.  A large team has come along side of Joe and Gloria to help finish the work Joe started.  They are hanging doors, painting trim, and doing additional work in an effort to help Joe and Gloria leave the FEMA Trailer and return to their home.

Crew 5.  Many members of the team have remained at the church, Primera Ingelsia Bautista.  This team has been cleaning, installing carpet and doing other jobs in the building.  On Tuesday the kitchen sink as installed.  A grew of volunteers have also been hard at work preparing and serving meals for the entire Mission team.

There is a great sense of accomplishment as work is being both started and completed.  A highlight of Tuesday was the shrimp boil for our evening meal.  Over 30 pounds of huge shrimp were prepared and enjoyed in a delicious meal.
