ABWM Recognizes Pearl S. Buck Woman of the Year Award Winner
Virginia Holmstrom, ABWomen in Ministries, Executive Director, and I attended the presentation today of the Pearl S. Buck Woman of the Year Award to Sheryl WuDunn author of "Half the Sky" which she wrote with her husband. Ms. WuDunn is a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter and accomplished author. Her husband Nickolas Kristoff is an op ed columnist for the Times.
The ABW Board is reading and studying "Half the Sky" according to Virginia in connection with its theme "Breaking the Chains".
The book is a journey through Africa and Asia meeting women the two authors have known over a period of years during which the women were struggling for life itself. It is a book that shows how a little help can transform the lives of women and girls to break the chain of suffering and poverty.
My connection to Pearl s. Buck International is that I was director of "Welcome House" the International and U.S. adoption program of PSBI. PSBI is located in Bucks County PA. The Pearl S. Buck estate is a wonderful place to visit especially at Christmas time.
