"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold" (Proverbs 22:1). ABCOPAD through the help of CLI of Northeastern PA offered its annual Clergy Ethics Course at the Calvary Baptist Church in Williamsport, PA. Twelve students along with three instructors, the CLI NE PA Administrator and the Site Coordinator devoted a weekend to study clergy ethics and its importance in ministry. Reading Ministerial Ethics, Moral Formation For Church Leaders by Joe Trull & James Carter as the primary text for the weekend, the students used what they learned to work through a series of case studies and videos featuring a variety of ethical dilemmas. With the media often focusing on the moral failures clergy, thus diminishing the influence of pastoral leadership in our world, the subject of clergy ethics is both relevant and significant, now more than ever. Students left the course knowing they will need to meet with their congregational leaders to further integrate the material into their ministry and write their own personal clergy ethics statement to receive credit for the course. The next Clergy Ethics course will be offered in the spring of 2012.
