ABCOPAD 12th Rubble Home Mission Trip

 Many More Pictures On Photobucket

Our 12th ABCOPAD Haiti Mission Team served in Grand Goave, June 7 - 14.  The team accomplished a lot of work including laying a foundation, building a security wall at the back of the compound, collecting sand and rubble for houses and roughing out 2 rubble homes.  Despite team members struggling with Chykungunia (an illness spread by mosquitos causing fever, headache, severe muscle and joint pain and an itchy rush) the team was very successful in care for the people of grand Goave as well as one another.

Empty Chair at United Baptist Taylor

On this Pentecost Sunday, Pastor Paul Fields and the congregation of The United Baptist Church of Taylor put prayer banners throughout the sanctuary to remind the members to pray for their empty seats ... not so much to get people INTO THE PEWS, but rather get their own people OUT OF THE PEWS and into their community, being Holy Spirit led to keep divine appointments and strike up spiritual conversations in the hope of connecting people with Christ and in turn connecting people with the Taylor congregation and thus filling the empty pews for which they are praying.  This prayer initiative is part of an intentional, church wide study of sharing our personal faith based on the principles in the book, Got Style?, written by Dr. Jeff Johnson, our Regional Pastor for Congregations and our ABC National Director of Evangelism.  Also, these are prayers of expectation in preparation for the Abington Association revival this fall.

Ramp Completed at Trinity BC Scranton

Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser (Trinity, Scranton) reported that the handicap ramp at the church has been completed, allowing better access to the sanctuary.  The congregation worked very hard to both raise the necessary funds for this project and do the construction. An ABCOPAD grant helped underwrite the cost of the ramp

Woodlawn Vespers Launched In Aliquippa

www.facebook.com/WoodlawnVespers

Hi Mark,

I just wanted to give you a little update. We had our first service Sunday night for "Woodlawn Vespers" which is what we are calling the outreach to our college students & 20 something's. The format has changed from my initial proposal. Because of feedback I received from our young adults. We are meeting on Sunday nights from 7-8 in the church basement. We have new praise music (those are our musicians in the picture), I do a little talk, then we do a group bible study/discussion. We have snacks, then at about 8:15 we have a Christian "open mike/jam session".

It went really well Sunday. We had 13 out (we thought that was pretty good for our first time). The excitement was really high, a few of the young adults invited their friends who came. We had plenty of help setting up & cleaning up. Just about everyone said they would be back.

The church is supportive, a lot of prayer & interest. Some of The moms decorated the stage, one dad hung the screen so we could project the words. One lady donated some old couches so we could have some comfortable seating, and several have signed up to supply the snacks.

We are using social media to promote Woodlawn vespers. We are on Facebook & twitter. We can also be found @ meetup.com as Aliquippa area young adult bible & praise.

Thanks for your prayers, & helping us get the grant from ABCPAD. --That was the impetus I needed to move from thinking I should do something with our young adults to actually doing it!

Blessings,  Rev. Howard Irwin  Pastor
