ABCOPAD Missionaries Wanted!
First Baptist Church of Reading is sponsoring two mission projects,January 29 -February 12, 2011. Teens through Seniors who have a CAN-DO SPIRIT are needed! There are jobs for builders, teachers, kids workers, craft makers; skill level is not a limitation. Construction is done by Dominican skilled laborers and we Americanos serve as helpers. Mission team members with construction experience are welcome to use their skill with a Dominican flare.
The first week, Jan 29 – Feb 5, takes place at Iglesia Riviera Del Caribe, near the Santo Domingo airport. New construction for a worship and education facility will begin with excavation, pouring footer, laying foundation block and building the skeletal support structures needed for walls and roofing. The congregation has been meeting in a rented house in the community, praying and saving for years to build. A corner lot was purchased last year in the hub of the development and while waiting to build, the church planted corn, beans and squash. This has become their “field of dreams.” A daily VBS will also be led by the mission team with the help of translators.
The second week, Feb – 12, will be spent in the countryside at a former orphanage near San Cristobal. El Redil Baptist Church now owns the 15 acre site and has a vision to transform it into a Retreat and Conference Center and Christian Youth Camp called Pastos Verdes (Green Pastures). A new roof is a priority and many facility updates are planned. While repairs are being done, a daily VBS will be offered to local children. Team members are needed for Bible lessons, music, crafts, games, snacks, etc. Translators will be available to help with language needs.
Both weeks require members who love to help build and those who love to work with children's ministry. The cost for one week is $1500.00. The two week cost is only $100.00 more - $1600.00 This includes travel, lodging, food and building/VBS costs. Mission team members need a passport and a few vaccinations.
