Complete Photo Album Of This Event
What a great day it was for the First Baptist Church of Point Marion, Pennsylvania to celebrate their 100th Anniversary on Sunday, June 10, 2012. People came from both near and far, across town as well as across the country. Folks were there ranging from 18 months to 95 years of age.
There was a morning worship service during which time special music was provided by a former organist from the 1960's, Marilyn Blaney, who has remained in continual contact with the congregation. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson presented a certificate of recognition to Pastor Kathy Griffith from our ABCOPAD family. The keynote sermon was provided by former pastor, Rev. John Trojak, now senior pastor at FBC, Sharon. Pastor John served Point Marion during the time of their 75th Anniversary and shared about orchestrating that celebration during his message.
A wonderful luncheon was served by the ladies of the church. A display was created of pictures and items from previous celebrations. A book of words and pictures was made available for purchase.
The afternoon service of praise featured former musicians and singing groups of the church, including Judi Hoffman-Ayars whose first husband, Rev. Wm. Hoffman, pastored the church from the mid-1960's to the mid-1970's. The message was preached by Barry Kaiser, a son of the congregation who grew up just across the street from the church who has been a missionary, still serving in China.
Much work inside and outside the church was done to pull this milestone event together, including renovations including but not limited to repointing of the masonry, repainting of the windows, remodeling of the bathrooms, as well as the kitchen which is still a work in progress.
